Pikachu the Cat

Dr. Heather, can you set the stage for us about Pikachu?

I first met Pikachu as a senior kitty who had lived a long, full life as an outdoor cat. When his body became too fragile for comfortable life outdoors, he won the kitty lottery and ended up in an indoor home where he received abundant love, a soft and warm bed, and a great team of people dedicated to keeping him happy, healthy, and pain-free for as long as possible. Pika was social, a great traveler, and wanted nothing more than to curl up next to the person who was caring for him and give them a big hug. He had many pain conditions that ail our senior dogs and cats, including joint arthritis, spinal pain, and myofascial pain (“soft tissue pain”). He loved the Infrared heat lamp, acupuncture, laser, massage, and really any therapies that involved attention. After starting therapy at Ruff Day, he built up more autonomy moving around his environment, getting up onto chairs and windowsills again, and even went back to playing with toys again - something his owner hadn’t realized he had stopped doing until that joy was back in his life. Pikachu got to enjoy a relatively pain-free kitty retirement in the later stages of his life, something all of our beloved seniors deserve!

Though his mobility was restricted, Pikachu the cat showed an affinity for therapies provided to help with pain and inflammation, including laser, acupuncture, Estim, and PEMF. In this photo, Pikachu relaxes while Dr. Heather lasers his joints.

What does Pikachu’s Family want to share about Ruff Day Vet?

Can you share a brief story about your pet's health journey and how our team has helped you during your visits?

Pikachu was an elderly boy when he came to live with me. He was a barn cat and the children on the farm named him. Pika was sharp and sharp at hiding his "old man" pains. Doctor Heather intuited and of course used her medical expertise and help Pika with back and hip pain relief in his final years. Pika even wrapped his front legs around Dr. Heathers arms when she was treating him. He loved Adam too....Adam always carried him in and greeted him and had him feel safe and welcome.
