Essential Job Functions
Our team members must be able to perform the following essential functions:
Animal Care and Handling:
Prioritize maintaining an environment that supports safety, comfort, and collaboration
Embrace fear-free techniques, and use the Platinum Rule to guide interactions
Ability to read human, dog and cat expressions and cues, and adjust your own interaction style to meet the animal where they are, behaviorally
Respond quickly and appropriately in emergency situations involving animals
Physical Requirements:
Stand, walk, and remain active for extended periods (up to 8 hours per shift)
Lift and carry items up to 40 lbs for restocking, exercise setup/cleanup, organizing, or cleaning tasks
Move onto and off of the ground multiple times per day; all staff members, regardless of role, may work with animal patients on the ground
Perform routine cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, and maintaining a hygienic and pleasant environment
Technology Proficiency:
Utilize software / apps for patient management, client relationship management, and record-keeping
Operate standard office technology including computers, tablets, smart phones, and peripherals
Use standard and emerging applications and software to perform administrative and other duties
Videography, photography and editing software experience preferred
Willingness and ability to learn and adapt to new technologies as they are implemented in our practice
Customer Service:
Communicate effectively with clients, team members, and stakeholders both verbally and in writing

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
Previous experience in direct patient care, animal handling, and/or high-touch customer service
Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new skills quickly
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Strong communication skills with staff, existing clients, potential clients, and referral sources

About Us
Ruff Day Vet is dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care to pets and their owners. We are committed to exceptional service, continuous improvement, and fostering an inclusive environment for all. We're currently in a new services startup phase, offering a unique opportunity for a skilled RVT / LVT / CVT to contribute significantly to our growth, and be a key player in the development of new services.
Position Overview
This dynamic role combines clinical responsibilities with the crucial development and co-creation of new services as our clinic expands its offerings. The position is divided into two phases: a 3-month startup phase focused heavily on service development, and a subsequent maintenance phase.
Phase 1 - Startup (First 3 Months)
During this phase, you will balance direct patient care (50%) with service development responsibilities (50%). This is a critical period for establishing new clinic offerings.
Phase 2 - Maintenance (Post 3 Months)
After the startup phase, the role transitions to full-time patient care (70-85%) and established service management (15-30%), including ongoing refinement of developed services.
Essential Job Functions
Service Development and Management (50% in Phase 1, 15-30% in Phase 2)
Natural Nutrition Service:
Collaborate with the DVM to develop a holistic nutrition service.
Research appropriate products, protocols, and client communication strategies.
After launch, manage the service, including client consultations and diet formulations.
Controlled Substances and Euthanasia Protocols:
Work with the DVM to create the clinic's Controlled Substances Administration (CSA) protocol.
Develop a compassionate euthanasia service.
Research legal compliance, set up ordering and reporting systems, and obtain competitive quotes for supplies.
Sedation Services:
Assist in developing a comprehensive sedation service.
Set up protocols for drug stock management (ordering, receiving, handling, and reporting).
Co-develop sedation techniques with the DVM and ensure all safety standards are met.
Technician Services Suite:
Collaborate with the DVM to expand technician services, such as laser therapy, SQ fluids, and injections.
Ensure that these services meet industry standards and patient needs.
Marketing and Group Classes:
Assist in developing and executing a marketing plan for new services.
Contribute to the creation of group classes that enhance community engagement and client education.
Clinical Responsibilities (50% in Phase 1, 70-85% in Phase 2)
Therapeutic Exercise: Perform and assist in therapeutic exercises under DVM direction
Patient Assessment: Conduct brief exams and check vitals prior to treatment sessions
Emergency Response: Take the lead, with DVM, in emergency situations, providing immediate intervention and stabilizing care
Patient Plan and Care: Participate in daily patient rounds and assist in communicating treatment plans
Acupuncture and Rehabilitation Support: Assist in appointments and treatments utilizing fear free patient handling techniques exclusively
Extracorporeal Shock Wave (ECSW) Procedures: Assist in ECSW procedures utilizing fear free patient handling techniques exclusively
Nutrition Services: Conduct client interviews, assist in diet formulation, and perform follow-up check-ins
Administrative and Community Engagement
Client Service: Assist with CSR duties such as answering phones, scheduling, and patient intake.
Facility Maintenance: Help maintain clinic cleanliness and prepare exam rooms.
Newsletter Contribution: Create monthly content for the clinic's newsletter.
Community Outreach: Represent Ruff Day Vet at public events and manage social media presence.
Professional Networking: Build relationships with referring veterinarians and local veterinary community.
Qualifications
Certification: Must be a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) or Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT).
Emergency Care Skills: Trained and confident in handling basic stabilization and preparation for transfer of acute patient emergencies.
Minimum of 3 years experience in direct patient care.
Strong interest in rehabilitation and nutrition.
Excellent communication skills for client interaction, team collaboration, and service development.
Ability to lift and handle animals and retail stock weighing up to 40 lbs.
Proficiency in veterinary software and willingness to learn new technologies.
Creativity and initiative for developing new services and protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
Rehabilitation Certification (additional training provided if not certified; experience working in rehabilitation is not a requirement).
Experience or strong interest in holistic pet nutrition.
Prior experience in veterinary service development or startup environments.
Work Environment
High-touch, medium-paced, dynamic veterinary clinic setting.
Schedule may include weekends and some evenings.
Exposure to animals, animal allergens, and cleaning chemicals is expected.
Flexibility required for balancing clinical duties with service development responsibilities.
Compensation and Benefits
$26-32/hr for 35-40 hours per week, depending on experience
Addition of health insurance benefits after 90 day probationary period
Performance-based raises
Annual continuing education stipend after 90 day probationary period
2 weeks (80 hours) paid time off (PTO) per year after 90 day probationary period
