Can too much quality time with pets be a bad thing?

As we all continue to push through “Stay Home Stay Safe”, a lot of us are finding comfort in our pets during these challenging times. Many of our pets, especially of the canine variety, are absolutely elated to have so much time with their humans at home! We must all remember that this, too, shall pass, and when it does, it may be very hard on our pups who have grown accustomed to our constant presence.

To help ease that emotional burden on them and prevent various forms of separation anxiety, please ensure your pups are still getting some alone time through the day so they remember how to be emotionally self-sufficient. This is especially true for all the puppies out there who are learning that having their humans at home all the time is the only "normal."

If your pup is crate trained, make sure they're still spending some time in their crate every day. Give them nap time alone in a room for a few hours every day--Ralphie and Wesley are enjoying some alone / together time in the sun on our deck today, and he's loving every second of it!

Now is the best time to plan for your pet's emotional return to normal. While acupuncture can be a great option to treat separation anxiety in dogs and cats once it has developed, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. We're all in this together, humans and pets included!
